Last run before the marathon.....marathon distance........

May 21, 2015-

Today we did our last run before the marathon, technically we do have a 2 mile run on Saturday BUT that is just to keep the legs lose and all so today's 5 mile run is kinda our last run beforehand in our minds......

Today we drove the course after our run, ok Pam drove it, we double checked the distance and from door to door the distance is EXACTLY 26.2 miles. Yes, from the door to our house to the door at Kent Animal Shelter it is exactly 26.2 miles, what are the odds of that?!?!?!?

We are running Smithtown By Pass to Middle Country Rd to Edwards Ave to River Road.
Interesting enough the marathon distance was first: The legend of Pheidippides was honored by a 24.85 mile (40,000 meters) run from Marathon Bridge to Olympic stadium in Athens. Later it was changed at the 1908 Olympic Games in London, the marathon distance was changed to 26.2 miles to cover the ground from Windsor Castle to White City Stadium, with the 2.2 miles added on so the race could finish in front of royal family's viewing box. This added two miles to the course, and is the origin of the Marathon tradition of shouting "God save the Queen!" (or other words relating to the Queen) as mile post 24 is passed. I guess to keep the tradition at 24 miles we should be shouting "God Save the Queen!" or maybe shout something more appropriate to the reasons for our marathon of the day! Maybe the people at Kent will hear our shoutout and know we are coming! Maybe Pam shall shoutout, "Save Kent Animal Shelter" as they are undergoing some trying times with renovations and all!

Until tomorrow,
Don't forget about our fundraiser for the shelter that helped me find my furever home!
